The overuse of “Business” in SharePoint

Okay this has been an annoyance for about as long as I have worked with SharePoint. The random throwing around of the word “business” to make yourself sound more important than you really are. First, please observe this image -

Cool?

Now, I realize things need to make “business sense” for them to pass the test of time. They also need to make “business sense”, i.e. have a measurable profit return in the short and long run. I am not against a business plan, in fact a good business plan is not a nice to have, it is essential for any project’s success.

What I have a problem with, is how often people use this word to cover their own shortcomings.

Seriously, how many businesses have you run? I run one, one that I have grown at 30% year on year for the past 5 years. And I’m proud to be a techie who doesn’t throw around this term randomly. Be DAMN PROUD of your tech skills. It is what America needs, it is what will keep you employed.

With that, I need to get back to business. Good luck!

Sound off but keep it civil:
