With SharePoint 2013 RTM’ing, I am thrilled to announce an updated version of my SharePoint 2013 Development Machine book’let. As you know, I am publishing many small booklets, and eventually I will publishing a single big book also – sort of the track/cd model. Also, this self-e-publish model allows me to keep the content updated as I learn more.
There is a very minor portion at the end that is still pre-RTM. Specifically as of now SharePoint Designer 2013 and Visual Studio tools for SharePoint 2013 have not yet RTM’ed. However, installing those is not very different from Beta2. The screenshots may change a bit. I will of course update the book soon as the RTM bits are available.
However, what is published right now, will show you how to build a SharePoint 2013 development VM on a single machine. This includes the setup for Apps, and the setup for Workflows. Office Web Apps has to be on another server, which I do show in the book, but as I make the case in the book – there is not much of a “dev” story to it that requires you to run that VM all the time. That second VM can be a shared VM, so 99.99% of the time, you can get by with a single machine development environment.
Every SharePoint developer will need to build a Virtual Machine on which they can do their development. The only exception to this rule is if you are targeting Office365 only, but still, having your own Virtual Machine running SharePoint 2013 is almost essential. This booklet is a larger part of many books and it walks you through the process of setting up a SINGLE MACHINE SharePoint 2013 development environment. Also, this book will walk you through the many practical implications you need to consider when creating such a machine.
Kindle Version available now.
Lulu.com Version available now.
Please don’t forget to leave reviews, positive or negative – My aim in self-publishing is to also create a more honest and open communication channel.
If something is wrong with the book, I will keep updating it, and you will keep getting the updated version for free (I hope, I’m a Kindle Virgin).
Speaking of which, my previous book – SharePoint 2013 Planet of the Apps, I have updated the Kindle version to have MUCH MUCH better formatting now. Please let me know if it’s decent now or not.
My next update to Planet of the Apps will be post RTM. Enjoy! and Thanks! :)
