Late last month Hilton and I chatted for .. well .. a decent time :), about the various facets of delivering projects on SharePoint. One topic lead to another, and we had a pretty good chit chat. In fact, it went for so long that Hilton decided to break it into two podcasts – Part 1 is online now, and Part 2 will be online in I think a week or two.

Here is part 1 -

Hope you like it! :)

Sound off but keep it civil:

I have successfully installed MOSS 2k7 enterprise in a farm environment where I have 3 servers: 1 SQL Server, 1 Server for WFE, SSP, Document Conversion Services, etc and 1 for Search/Indexing, WSS Help Search. I can create sites/collection normally using any of the available templates except the Publishing Templates. When I use Publishing Collaboration Portal template, the site collection creation is not sucessful and I get the following event Ids from the event viewer: 1314, 4965, 6875, 7888. Specifically, looking at the log, it seems to fail with access denied type of failures while creating site for the Collaboration Portal.

I highly appreciate your expert opinnion on this.

I have figured this out. Thanks anyways. This actually had to do with the permissions of the application pool. I am using CA to create the Portal, so added the CA App Pool as an administrator and it worked. This was because, the Portal environment create further subsites during the Portal creation/init process and the app pool needs admin privileges on the site collection.
