Sound off but keep it civil:

Awesome post dude.

Sadly, high pressure work in the software industry is all too common, and although your post ultimately led to the discussion of "project health" I think you hit upon a big problem faced by stressed software engineers of today. It seems to me that project managers are all to willing to shell out more money to get more from their software team, but pay less attention to fixing issues in the project in the first place; so the Joe's of this world can make their gym appointment.

A case in point, I just started at a new place of work this week (so far so good), and my wife tells me yesterday that she met a guy in the software industry that would pay whatever it took to make me move and join his organization - I cannot help but think that either he has more work than he knows what to do with, in which case he needs to start turning clients away (or be more affective at hiring ahead to meet the load), or the projects he has are flashing critical red. Either way, I'm staying right where I am and keeping close tabs on my ticker to make sure I don't need bypass in the future.
