Carl Franklin and I had put together a few (1, 2, 3, 4) DNRTV shows on SharePoint earlier. The response to those was so overwhelmingly positive, that we went ahead and created a full END TO END "Learn MOSS" series.
Yep, you read that right, an END TO END series in high rez. tackling every damn topic in SharePoint 2007. This will be available on DVD, and will come with a transcript.
Seriously, there is no quicker way to learn SharePoint, than to be able to watch someone do it. SharePoint is indeed very point and clickity, XML twiddly, and batch file-y. How do you convey all that in a textbook? Damn! Well you could, but Video is just SUCH SUCH a better mechanism.
Plus Carl's intelligent commentary and questions keep the course interesting. He asks the questions that any attendee would think of - and the instructor (me) was glossing over. He stops me and asks "Hey - what about XXX", and "Why did you not do it this way instead", and "Oh wow that was painful", or "Damn this is so cool!".
Notably, I have authored the course in such a manner that I share as many practical tips as possible. I talk about how you'd do it in production, and how you'd do it in a virtualized environment. How you'd deploy stuff, and why if you didn't do so, you are in a world of pain afterwards. I think I have covered a lot of hard-learned stuff that I could not find in books. Cutting clear of marketing, I don't shy from demonstrating even non-microsoft tools that I thought were essential to your MOSS experience.
